The Hellobooks Listing Policy – the Do’s and Don’ts. As a Seller on Hellobooks you need to ensure you have read and understood our Listing Policy, failure to comply or adhere to this policy may result in a wide range of actions being taken in the event the policy is contravened. In order to promote a safe, fair and enjoyable trading experience for all users, bidorbuy has established a set of listing policies.
To promote a safe, fair and enjoyable trading experience for all users, hellobooks.co.za has established a set of listing policies to ensure that items listed adhere to a minimum standard, making it easier for all to transact on the hellobooks.co.za website.
This Listing Policy is mentioned in clause 4.4.5 of the Terms and Conditions of Use of this Site and must be adhered to by all users. The following policies apply to all listings
1.1 Listings of items that are not allowed:
1.1 The following items in section 1 may not be listed on hellobooks.co.za and it is the sole responsibility of the seller who lists items to ensure that the listings do not include any of the following:
1.1.1 stolen goods;
1.1.2 illegally imported goods;
1.1.3 pirated or counterfeit goods of any nature including but not limited to Audiobooks;
1.1.4 goods and services that could by nature be deemed harmful or dangerous to persons or property either directly or indirectly;
1.1.5 goods and services of which does infringe on the copyrights of others;
1.1.6 goods and services of which the sale and/or export would be in contravention of South African law;
1.1.7 offers to give away products or services for free;
1.1.8 listing items that requires an additional purchase, swop or trade in;
1.1.10 any goods and services that are deemed as inappropriate for sale on this site at the sole discretion of hellobooks.co.za.
2. Categories that items are listed in:
2.1 Items should be listed in the correct category that caters for the type of item.
2.2 Listing the same product in multiple categories will be allowed providing the seller of the book is a verified seller and the book is relevant to the listing category.
3. Item condition:
3.1 Listed condition should always be true reflection of the actual condition of the item being sold.
3.2 Misrepresentation of the item condition is not allowed under any circumstance eg. Listing an item as new when it is second hand or listing softcover copy as hardcover one.
3.3 Item Condition Guidelines:
3.3.1 New (N): Just like it sounds. A brand-new, unused, unread copy in perfect condition. In original protective wrapping. Book with any labels attached, may not be listed as New (N) condition.
3.3.2 Like New (LN): An apparently unread copy in perfect condition. Dust cover is intact; pages are clean and are not marred (stained) by notes or folds of any kind. Spine has no signs of creasing. All supplementary materials are included and all access codes for electronic material, if applicable, are valid and/or in working condition.
3.3.3 Very Good (VG): A copy that has been read, but remains in excellent condition. Pages are intact and are not marred by notes or highlighting, but may contain a neat previous owner name. The spine remains undamaged.
3.3.4 Good (G): A copy that has been read, but remains in clean condition. All pages are intact, and the cover is intact. The spine may show signs of wear. Pages can include limited notes, no highlighting, and the copy can include “From the library of” labels, Book Club or previous owner inscriptions.
3.3.5 Acceptable (A): A readable copy. All pages are intact, and the cover is intact. The dust cover may be missing. Pages can include considerable notes–in pen or highlighter–but the notes cannot obscure the text.
3.3.6 Poor (P): Describes a book that has the complete text but is so damaged that it is only of interest to a buyer who seeks a reading copy. If the damage renders the text illegible then the book is not even poor. This copy may be soiled, scuffed, stained or spotted and may have loose joints, hinges, pages, etc.
3.3.7 Student Owned (SO): Those books have the hallmarks of being used by students. As a result, there may be underlining or highlighting in the text, and older editions of a title may exhibit more wear and tear than the average used textbook. Also, student owned textbooks may or may not include the original access codes provided for access to websites related to the book.
4. Prohibited Textbook Items:
4.1 Listing inaccurate or incorrect textbook information or descriptions (including ISBNs) resulting in misrepresentation of the textbook.
4.2 The book titles may match but not necessarily be the same edition. If the ISBN on the textbook does not match the ISBN on the detail page, you may not list the textbook against that detail page.
4.3 Textbooks may not be sold like: pdf, scanned, photo-copied or otherwise unauthorized content.
4.4 Promotional copies of all media including books, music, and videos are prohibited. Typically, promotional textbooks contain content that is identical to the Student Edition. The only difference will be markings or stamps displayed on the front or back cover, such as “Complimentary Copy,” “Free Copy,” “Instructor’s Edition,” or “Not for Sale.
4.5 Teacher’s Editions and Annotated Instructor’s Editions are not intended for public sale and may not be listed for sale on hellobooks.co.za.
4.6. Solutions Manuals that are not intended for students or for public sale may not be listed for sale on hellobooks.co.za.
5. Audiobooks and Software:
5.1 It is prohibited to sell unauthorized copies of media, software, movies that violate copyright laws. Unauthorized copies include, but aren’t limited to backup, pirated, duplicated or reproduced copies.
5.2 Discs must not be cracked, dented, have deep scratches or other damage does impact on the disc’s ability to play.
5.3 All the original packaging, artwork, booklets and instructions are present and these should not be defaced or damaged.
5.4 Items with an ISBN or barcode number different than that on the packaging even if the title is the same.
6. Titles, descriptions and images:
6.1 Titles and descriptions must be an accurate reflection of what is sold.
6.2 Misrepresenting of brand names or other words to attract buyers to listings is not allowed.
6.3 Information used in the listing description must be clear and easy to understand:
6.3.1 keyword spamming or the inappropriate use of keywords to manipulate search results or listing rankings are not permitted.
6.3.2 the use of profanity and offensive language and images is not allowed.
6.4 The use of images in listings:
6.4.1 the sole use of stock images in item descriptions are only allowed when listing new items: New (N)- In original protective wrapping;
6.4.2 listings of second-hand goods must contain original images of the actual item as part of the description and the sole use of stock images on these listings are not allowed;
6.4.3 images used must not infringe of copyright and trademark law and users must have permission to use images that are under copyright.
7.1 The selling of items at nominal values to circumvent the paying of hellobooks.co.za fees or to get the contact information of the buyer is not allowed. Nominal amounts include R0.01, R0.10, R1.00 or any other amount that hellobooks.co.za deems nominal.
7.2 Hellobooks.co.za only accept book listing if the book’s selling price is R100.00 or more. The minimum listing price for any book is thus always R100.00.
8. Links and Contact details:
8.1 External links on listings that link away from the hellobooks.co.za domain is not permitted.
8.2 Links that link to sites where the product can be purchased are not allowed.
8.3 Links to sites where the buyer can obtain the contact details of the seller to conclude the purchase off the hellobooks.co.za platform is not allowed.
8.4. Anything that attempts to circumvent paying hellobooks.co.za fees is not allowed, for example: selling of catalogues, cross selling, upselling.
9.1 Sellers may not offer Lay-by’s as a payment option to buyers.
9.2 The payment is run through a third-party payment gateway, and is therefore prescribes to the 3rd parties terms & conditions. Hellobooks’ 3rd party payment gateway provider is PayFast (https://www.payfast.co.za/)
10. Listing Abuse, manipulation:
10.1 Seller may not manipulate or abuse the listing service to get listings featured more prominently or to spam the hellobooks.co.za website. This includes but is not limited to:
10.1.1 repeated item relisting with short listing durations without selling the items;
10.1.2 keyword spamming;
10.1.3 spamming categories with multiple listings of the same or similar items.
11. Market prices:
11.1 Market prices are not allowed to be inflated to create a perception of savings.
11.2 Market prices should only be used if it can be easily verified with real world examples.
12. Stock availability and drop-shipping:
12.1 Items listed should be in stock and ready to be shipped.
12.2 Items sold that are not in stock or where the seller is not able to ship the goods may not be listed.
13.1 Hellobooks.co.za in its sole discretion reserves the right to remove any listing deemed necessary without having to notify the seller of such a listing.
13.2 Seller is responsible of maintain his existing account and listing’s information up-to-date. The Seller is responsible for keeping the confidentiality of his account and password and for restricting access to his account, and accept responsibility for all activities that occur under his account or password.
13.3 Hellobooks.co.za do not transfer legal ownership of items from the seller to the buyer.
13.4 Any user agrees that hellobooks.co.za will not be liable to you or any other person for any loss, damage, expense, or other amounts incurred, by any person however arising from any authorised or unauthorised use of, access to, reliance on, or any inability to use or access the Hellobooks website and/or services.
13.5. Hellobooks.co.za reserves the right to amend/update the Listing Policy at any given time. Hellobooks.co.za will post details of any amendments on the website with the effective date on the following link: www.hellobooks.co.za/listing-policy/
